Dear Maylo family and friends,
Proverbs 27:1 reminds us that we don’t know what tomorrow holds. The past few days has certainly proved that haven’t they? We were told to forgo meeting together until the dangers of contracting Covid-19 are past. This may take several months.
I want you to know that Maylo is no different than many if not most other churches. This is new territory for all the Church who cling to God’s promise that where 2 or more are gathered that God is present. During this time of enforced separation for our safety, I am convinced that God is still with us. We just need to find new ways to understand what being present together means.
We love one another so we long to be together. This separation is difficult. It is also difficult not knowing how to express the love for our neighbor that Jesus commands us to have. As we think about this it is important to remember that what Jesus really commanded is that we love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. Let’s not forget the self-care that Jesus reminds us is important.
We may not be able together physically, but that certainly doesn’t mean that we cannot reach out over the phone, through email, or text. I strongly encourage each one of us to reach out to 1 or 2 friends every day to see how they are doing. If you are concerned about someone’s well-being, please pass along your concerns either with the authorities if there is imminent need of help, or call me, and I will do what I can to help.
There are also some plans to safely maintain our assistance to children in our community. We plan to deliver food to ensure that our children have enough to eat later this week.
Also, I plan to have a short message posted here by next Sunday morning. We may not be able to come together to sing and pray, but we can still hear God’s Word.
